HOW TO MIX DAFFODILS WITH OTHER SEASONAL FLOWERS
photo Mario Verduzco
A mixed bunch of Spring flowers in the home is such a joyful thing, but if your arrangement includes daffodils, you might be shortening the life of the other flowers.
This is because daffodil sap in the water can clog the stems of other flowers, causing them to wilt. Unfortunately tulips, which flower around the same time, are particularly sensitive to this.
The good news is you can stop the daffodil sap from harming your other flowers by following these simple steps:
STEP 1
cut your stems
Cut your daffodil stems to your desired lenth.
STEP 2
let the daffodils drink
Leave in water by themselves for at least an hour, (but over night is preferable) so the cut end can ‘seal’ itself.
STEP 3
rinse the stems
Pour away the water and rinse the stems.
STEP 4
arrange your flowers
Arrange with your other flowers in a vase with fresh water.
STEP 5
rinse & repeat
If you decide to cut the stems again for any reason, repeat the above steps as each fresh cut will release more sap
