THE FOUR ESSENTIAL VASES EVERYONE SHOULD OWN
What could be nicer than bringing the outdoors in, and having a vase of fresh flowers in your home?
However if you’re finding it a struggle successfully arrange your flowers, the chances are, you’ve probably just been using the wrong size vase. Knowing which type to use, will elevate your blooms, for a quick styling win.
I have identified four types of vase that cover most bases when it comes to easily arranging seasonal flowers. These 4 vases, are the sizes I reach for time and time again when I’m creating arrangements in my house, from single stems to larger arrangements.
By the end of this guide, you’ll know how to make a single stem or a bunch of seasonal flowers look great. This is quick styling, for small budgets, with big results.
A small bud vase

Height 8 - 11 cm // neck opening 1.5 - 2cm
Bud vases are very versatile and great space savers; pop it on a ledge, by your bed or on your desk.
Perfect for bunches of small or even tiny flowers, such as muscari or snow drops which would get lost in a larger vase.
Great for any flower that needs rescuing. If you have any snapped stem, just pop it in a bud vase to continue to enjoy it.
If you have flowers growing in your garden, but not enough to pick a whole bunch, you can simply snip a single stem to enjoy indoors. I like to do this with my hellebores, roses and geraniums.
Instead of always feeling like you have to buy a whole bunch of flowers, why not treat yourself or a loved one to single special stem. Such as a dahlia, poppy or slipper orchid. This can really allow you to appreciate the flower in all its glory.
An everyday medium vase

Height 15 - 17 cm // neck opening 4 - 5cm
A medium vase is very versatile and perfect single variety seasonal bunches of flowers that come without foliage.
These are the kinds of bunches you can buy from your local florist, market or supermarket.
Instead of a mixed bouquet, just 6-10 stems of one type of flower always looks fantastic; an easy but effective arrangement.
Flowers include Anemones, Sweet Peas, Ranunculus, Daffodils, Tulips, Sweet William or Cornflowers.
A medium bouquet vase

Height 17 - 22 cm // neck opening 10 - 13 cm
A bouquet vase is a little bit taller than your medium everyday vase, but crucially it has a wider opening. This accommodates the fullness of the foliage and bushier stems, giving them room to breathe.
Don’t be tempted to use this vase for a slimmer bunch of blooms, as they will flop outwards as they won’t be sufficiently supported by the vase’s neck opening.
A large statement vase

Height 30 - 35 cm // neck opening 8 - 11 cm
These large vases look great in your home as a statement piece, even without flowers in them.
In Spring, I like to pair them with a large flowering branch which will last for ages and look incredibly stylish. I like one or two stems of Magnolia, Blossom or Forsythia. Buy them in bud and watch them bloom.
In the other months I use mine for a few stems of larger headed flowers that have long stems such as sunflowers or hydrangeas.
